My Venus is Better than Your Venus

A copy of Lucas Cranach’s Venus and Amor, painted in accordance with the Princeton University Art Museum’s guidelines for copyists, replaced the original work in the museum. The documentation required for copying and stop action video footage from a security camera (in which the artist is never seen) showing the copying and replacement of the painting and the relocation of the original to the artist’s home were also displayed. During the exhibition, postcards of the copy replaced those of the original in the museum store.
