Brooklyn-Queens Expressway pillar at the corner of Meeker Street and Graham Avenue, Northside, Brooklyn
January 2001

No one bothered me while I did this painting. Cars slowed down, but then they sped up again. I wore my neon orange jacket so that people would think I was official. My sister Matthea lived nearby and I hoped that she would see the painting whenever she walked to see me. Unfortunately, it wasn’t directly in her path, so that didn’t happen.
I liked the color of the pillar. It’s quite a romantic color for a pillar. You wouldn’t expect an expressway pillar to be pink. The painting was based on Carl Fahlcrantz’s View over Haga. As far as I know, it’s still there.
