Door of 111A North 10th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
December 2000
This is the door to the studios next to mine. Like everything on our street, it’s always covered with graffiti. No sooner is the door painted than it’s covered again. I thought that, for once, I’d be part of the problem rather than always trying to be part of the solution. It was very relaxing to paint so close to home. I was still feeling a bit nervous after my encounter with the police.
Nothing much happened while I was painting this one. It was based on a little oil sketch of Etna by Gustaf Soderberg. It didn’t last very long before it got covered by new graffiti. We painted the door silver recently, but it’s a losing battle.
